NALCO 8506 PLUS is a cooling water biodetergent designed to maintain heat transfer efficiency and prevent fouling in open recirculating cooling systems. While the full proprietary Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS) must be obtained directly from Nalco Water (Ecolab), the following safety and technical report is compiled from official registration data and product bulletins. Product Overview
8. Exposure Controls and Personal Protection (PPE)
- Respiratory Protection: If engineering controls (ventilation) are not sufficient to maintain exposure below occupational exposure limits, use a NIOSH-approved respirator with an organic vapor cartridge or a supplied-air respirator.
- Eye Protection: Chemical safety goggles are mandatory. A face shield is recommended when handling open containers or during transfer operations.
- Skin Protection: Wear chemical-resistant gloves (typically Nitrile, Butyl, or Neoprene depending on the exact solvent concentration). Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, or a full chemical suit for heavy exposure risk.
- Hygiene: Emergency eyewash stations and safety showers must be accessible in the immediate work area.
- Likely non-flammable or low flammability; consult MSDS for specific extinguishing media and hazards.
- Use standard extinguishing media; firefighters should wear SCBA and full protective gear if involved with product fire.
Flush immediately with plenty of water. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Inhalation:
