4. Risks
- Bricking: Interrupted or incorrect firmware can render the unit inoperable.
- Carrier locks / IMEI or network restrictions: Carrier-specific firmware can enforce SIM/IMEI restrictions; replacing firmware may not remove such locks and can sometimes trigger carrier protections.
- Security: Outdated firmware may have remote code execution, authentication bypasses, or open services; modified firmware may contain backdoors.
- Warranty/Support: Installing unofficial firmware can void warranty and remove official support.
