While often used interchangeably in public discourse, "animal welfare" and "animal rights" represent fundamentally different philosophical positions.

Freedom from fear and distress (ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering).

This approach infuriates purists on both sides. Welfare advocates say it ignores rights. Rights advocates call it "nicer slavery." But EAA claims the hard data: It reduces real sentient suffering faster than waiting for a vegan utopia.
