Critics will argue that naturism is exclusionary. They point out, correctly, that many naturist spaces lack diversity. Historically, naturism has been predominantly white, straight, and able-bodied. This is a valid critique, and the community is (slowly) changing.
Often, we are more attached to our cover-ups than our clothes. Hats, sunglasses, jewelry, and phones act as armor. Try removing these first. The goal is to exist without props.
The body positivity movement gave us permission to wear a bikini without a cover-up. It gave us the hashtag #LoveYourLines. It allowed us to post a candid shot without deleting the "imperfections."
