Important Reality Check:
Free, permanent, full-time Jiu-Jitsu gyms do not exist in Tbilisi. Rent and coaching costs make that impossible. However, you can train for free through these specific methods:
2. Elite Gym (Vera District)
- The Offer: First No-Gi class free every Friday night.
- Why go: Very heavy wrestling influence. If you want to learn how to not get taken down, go here.
- The Catch: The free class is crowded; expect 30+ people on the mats.
- Take 3-4 free trials at different gyms over two weeks. Explain you are a visitor deciding where to join – they will understand.
- Negotiate a short-term rate. Say: “I can only train 2x per week for 3 weeks. Can I pay 50 GEL?” Many small academies will agree, especially in slower months (December, August).
An Open Mat is a non-instructional time where the gym is open for rolling (sparring). Because there is no coach actively teaching, many gyms do not charge drop-in fees for open mats.
When searching for Jiu Jitsu Tbilisi free opportunities, look for these specific offers:
Allows you to try your first class free (typically Monday–Thursday). Location: Didi Dighomi.
- BJJ Tbilisi Dojo (near Vake Park) – Very welcoming to foreigners.
- Team Chochishvili (Saburtalo) – MMA/BJJ mix, often offers first session free.
- GFT (Georgian Fight Team) – More competition-focused, but solid trial policy.
Located in the Didi Dighomi district, this academy also provides the first session for free. It features high-quality FUJI mats and a dedicated program for adults and kids. Location: 6d Ioane Petritsi St, Tbilisi Grapple Street Martial arts school ClosedTbilisi, Georgia
