The Good

• The Performances: This is Sai Pallavi’s show entirely. She delivers a committed, physically demanding performance as Nithya. She manages to portray autism and savant syndrome without making it caricature-like, capturing the character's vulnerability and sudden bursts of aggression effectively. Fahadh Faasil, as always, is reliable. He brings a restrained intensity to a role that could have easily been overplayed.
• Visuals and Atmosphere: Cinematographer Anu Moothedath deserves immense credit. The film looks lush. The fog-laden hills, the gothic architecture of the asylum, and the strategic use of lighting create a mood that is consistently eerie. It is one of the better-looking Malayalam thrillers in recent years.
• The Ambience: The first half of the film succeeds in building tension. The jump scares are decent, and the mystery surrounding Nithya’s past keeps the audience guessing.

"Athiran" is a one-time watch. It is a film that relies heavily on its lead actors and its beautiful cinematography to carry a script that is slightly undercooked.
