Understanding CID Fonts (F1, F2, F3, F4): Solutions for Missing PDF Fonts
- Open the problematic PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro (paid version).
- Go to
Print → Select Adobe PDF as the printer.
- Click
Properties → Default Settings → Edit → Fonts.
- Substitute
F1 with Courier, F2 with Arial, F3 with Times New Roman.
- Print to a new PDF. The new file will have standard fonts, not CID ones.
Search for the Font:
- Identify the embedded fonts in a specific PDF (provide the file), or
- Recommend a specific open replacement (Noto/Source Han) and give exact commands to swap it into a PDF you specify.
Without vendor documentation these labels are ambiguous; treat them as separate styles within a single family.
- Different weights (e.g., Light = F1, Regular = F2, Bold = F3, Black = F4)
- Optical sizes (caption, text, display)
- Specialized subsets for different scripts/regions
